Carl Stefan Erling Persson is a Swedish billionaire businessman. He was the chairman of the fashion company H&M, which was founded by his father Erling Persson in 1947, but was succeeded by his son in May 2020. As the company’s largest shareholder, he continues to own a 36% stake. Stefan Persson is the son of Erling Persson, who founded H&M in 1947. He obtained an associate degree from Stockholm University.

Persson took over H&M from his father in 1982 and served as its CEO until 1998. He also holds a significant stake in the Swedish technology company Hexagon AB. Through his private real estate company Ramsbury Invest, he owns several properties in London, Paris, and Stockholm. He is the sole director of Ramsbury Estates Limited, which operates 19,000 acres (7,700 hectares) of land centered around the village of Ramsbury in Wiltshire, Berkshire, and Hampshire counties in England. Persson is one of the founders of the non-profit Mentor Foundation, which aims to combat substance abuse among young people. He also co-finances a foundation for the Djurgårdens IF team. Persson enjoys activities such as skiing, tennis, and golf. He owns properties in London, Paris, and Stockholm, and in 2009, he purchased the 21-cottage village of Linkenholt in Hampshire, England.

From his first marriage to Pamela Collett, Persson has three children: Karl-Johan Persson, who serves as the Chairman and CEO of H&M, Tom Persson, and Charlotte Söderström, all of whom are also billionaires. Persson lives with his second wife Denise Persson (formerly Florman) in Stockholm, Sweden.
